Since the end of the Group B era in 1987, Lancia has dominated the World Rally Championship and collected manufacturer titles one after another. In 1992, the Italian automaker launched its all-new version of the Delta, the HF Integrale. The HF, standing for the official club named “High Fidelity”, was a symbol of success and reflected Lancia’s determination to secure a sixth manufacturer title. At the season’s opening round, the team arrived full of confidence with Juha Kankkunen, the defending champion, and Didier Auriol as the No. 2 driver. From the start of the rally, the Lancia drivers engaged in a thrilling battle with Carlos Sainz (Toyota). Halfway through the rally, the race turned into a thrilling duel between Sainz and Auriol. On the morning of the third leg, Auriol was three seconds behind Sainz after a strong comeback. But that was just the beginning! On the rally’s final night, during the legendary Turini special stage, Auriol overtook Sainz and sealed his victory in style, finishing two minutes ahead of him! The Delta HF Integrale was born to win and entered rallying legend with an impressive Auriol at the wheel.
