In the 1960s, Renault launched one of the most iconic sports cars of its era, the R8 Gordini! In 1970, the French manufacturer took a bold step by launching the R12 Gordini. Whilst it retained the blue and white stripes, the car was designed differently. Goodbye to rear-wheel drive with the engine at the back; hello to front-wheel drive with the engine at the front. Once again, we owe the transformation of the standard saloon into a dynamic sports car to the ‘Wizard’, Amédée Gordini. The Italian once again worked his magic, proving the former racing driver’s talents as a designer. The R12 Gordini and its Cléon-Alu engine produced 125 horsepower – twice that of the standard version – and reached a top speed of nearly 200 km/h. More modern and safer, the Renault 12 in its ‘Gord’ version is a real little speedster straight out of the 1970s! Today it is a collector’s item, even rarer than the R8.
