In the McRae family, rallying is a tradition passed down from father to son or daughter. It all began with Jimmy. After cutting his teeth in motocross, he competed in his first rally at the age of 31 in 1974. Seven years later, he won his first British Rally Championship title. To this day, he remains the record holder with five titles. Before that first title, Jimmy was a loyal driver for the local brand, Vauxhall. In 1980, he competed in his final race with the brand at the legendary RAC Rally. Fresh off his title win on Irish tarmac, Jimmy McRae wanted to shine in his swan song with the Vauxhall Chevette 2300 HSR. While battling for a top-five finish, Jimmy crashed on SS31 and was forced to retire. Despite this result, the Scottish driver and his Vauxhall became legends of British rallying.
