In 1980, the reigning French tarmac rally champion, Bernard Béguin, turned his attention to a more international programme in the European Championship. He kept his car, the Porsche 911 SC, and kicked off his season with the iconic Monte Carlo Rally in the WRC. Battling for a top-10 finish, he eventually got caught out on the 19th special stage of the winter event. Unfortunately for him, his Porsche couldn’t get going again and this first rally of the season ended in retirement. Nevertheless, his car and his number 6 won the hearts of the driver’s fans as well as those of Monte Carlo enthusiasts!
